Maximilian de Winter is a wealthy man who lost his wife, Rebecca, about a year ago. He arrives in Monte Carlo, where he meets Mrs. Van Hopper and her young companion. Gradually, Maximilian becomes so captivated by the young woman that he eventually marries her, and soon the couple returns to Manderley, the de Winter family estate in Cornwall. There, the young woman begins to be haunted and overwhelmed by Rebecca’s presence, which she sees in absolutely everything.
