Matewan 1987

In the small American town of Matuon, the only jobs available are in the company’s coal mines. Food, clothing, electricity, housing—everything belongs to the company. But the mine owners want more: they’re cutting wages, raising prices in stores, and squeezing every last drop out of the workers. The people’s patience has run out. The workers are forming a union to defend their rights and freedom. Work has come to a halt. But the mine owners aren’t willing to give in so easily; they’re hiring armed agents and mercenaries ready to use their weapons at any moment.
