In 1632, the victorious Swedish army, under the command of King Gustavus Adolphus, wins the Thirty Years’ War, but the king himself is killed on the battlefield. Christina, the king’s 6-year-old daughter, ascends to the throne. Sixteen years later, Sweden is going through a difficult period as European countries seek to displace it from its dominant position in Europe.
