Rio de Janeiro, 1997. Ahead of the Pope’s visit, Captain Nascimento of the BOPE special military police unit (Special Police Operations Battalion) is assigned to neutralize the threat posed by drug gangs operating in the dangerous slums near the Pope’s residence. Because his wife is pregnant, the captain plans to leave his dangerous job to become a mentor to new recruits and is looking for someone capable of replacing him as commander. His choice falls on two newcomers—the man of action, Neto, and the idealist, André Matias.
